Egyptian Authorities Move To Settle Land Disputes
The Egyptian government is preparing to settle its dispute with approximately 20 foreign and local investors over the price of residential development land. Officials say that they want to avoid costly arbitration payments and do something positive to rebuild confidence in the Egyptian overseas property market.
The country has gone through several disputes over the price that state-owned land was sold to developers during the time of former President Hosni Mubarak.
These arguments included a dispute over land bought by Dubai-based developer Damac – which subsequently filed an international arbitration case against the Egyptian government’s position.
Egypt Authorities Abandon Plans For New Visa Restrictions.
The authorities in Egypt have announced that they will not be progressing new plans for tighter visa restrictions on tourist visitors to Egypt, following large scale protests from the tourist industry.
The Egyptian Authorities had previously announced that new restrictions on visas would be put in place as a part of a wider effort to increase security throughout the region. Integral to the new plans where restrictions on individual tourists applying for visa on actual entry into the country, which would have resulted in tourists having to apply to their local country embassy prior to travelling.
Many parties within the Egyptian real estate industry saw this as a negative step, which would have a considerable impact on the numbers of tourist visitors to the country. With the Egyptian authorities keen to restore confidence and investment levels in Egypt following the recent political turmoil, the decision was taken to remove the new plans.
